May 22 - Snow, Everest talk, biking & hot tubbin = good day

Woke up to some snow, the mountains got alot more. SNOWBIRD (still open) REPORTED 17 inches this AM!   It's going to snow for the next few days so Snowbird should be pretty good this weekend.

I took this shot before work, then it snowed all day.

A police car,  a Jeep wtih a thule, and a sweet snowmobile and trailer litter our front yard.

Pretty cool eh?

May 11 - Mt Aire Revisited - Summit Team Kisow/Gold

After only making it half way on March 23rd, Gold and I decided to do whatever it takes to make it to the top.   It was crazy.....i'm not even sure how or why we did it.  Lots of mixed snow/rock climbing in ski boots with heavy packs.   Saw one big moose who was not happy about us beign there.  Shreding in mid May less than 5 min drive from my house is never a bad thing.

                                                                     1 hour approach on foot

                                                                     2 hour skin

                                                                     3 hour bootpack

1 hour ski down and runnout

                                                                     1 hour hike out

                                                                     _____________

8 hour round trip = Worth the summit photo

Half way point.

With the daytime sun the snowturned to mush and we could not skin past this point.  It was a brutal posthole fest/hidden rock scramble the entire rest of the way.

May 10 - Retrive Lost Ice Axe from March 30th

Snowshoed from Solitude's upper lot down to moonbeam base and up the road to Silver Fork Trail Head.  I lost my ice axe while skiing here in march.  My friend caught my axe being snagged on a small tree and tore off my pack on VIDEO!  After examing the film I knew exactly where to look.  My snowshoes slipped  like crazy on the top 3 inches of slush while going up the run.  I had to boot pack it and use another one of my axes just to climb the slope.  Sure enough after just a few mins of looking I found my axe hanging from the tree that stole it from me 6 weeks earlier!  Snowshoed more up towards grizly gulch  after the find.  4 Hour RT.

Perfect!

I wonder if this slope avalanches much?

May 2-4 - Mountain Travel & Rescue 1&2

Intermountain Division at Alta Ski Area.

17  new inches in the past 48 hours

3 days & 2 nights at 9,700ft

See those cliffs in the background?

We skied UP to there and made camp.

It took 4 guys 4 hours to dig our snow cave

Roomy!  2 people slept on each side

My Bag and Bivy

We played on the cliffs above camp.

The fire pit was 7 feet deep by Sunday morning.

The snow was still nearly 15 feet deep in this location.

Fun times,  good people, &  the greatest snow on earth.

April 25-26 -  Park City Snowcamping

Decided to camp after work about half a mile behind our house.  Still have 4+ feet of snow in some places!

Moose #1

Moose #2

Moose #3 (Hobbes)

The fire pit kept growing (melting) and ended up several feet wide and down.

I spent the night in a snow cave I built.  Hobbes stayed too!

March 29 - Canyons Pondskim as "Scuba Steve"!

Did you really think that just because I live in Utah now I would miss a year of pondskimmin'???

Ha,

For those of you keeping score at home...Yes, I did once again dominate by having the fastest/farthest run.  I won a Canyons day pass for clearing the pond with authority.

March 25 - Room with a view

March 23 - Backcountry

Woke up and went to Easter Mass in Park City with Billy and his buddy Frys.  After church I went ski touring with Billy and Adam in hopes of stealing some powder turns many days after the last storm.  We came, we saw, and we conqured Mount Aire which is just below parleys summit and only 5 min from our house.  I have gazed at this mountain for years from I-80 and have always wanted to shred it.   We didn't exactly summit; olnly made it to the lower shoulder.  The hike up was long but the turns were worth it.  We finished up the night wtih an awsome dinner at Adams's parent's house which included a wicked Easter egg/beer bottle hunt.

March 22 - Feeling lucky

Went to Wendover, Nevada with Billy and my firend from the dorms, Chris.  I didn't win but had a blast anyways.

March 20, 21, 22 - Cha-ching

A family from California hired me to instruct their kids at Park City Mountain Resort for 3 straight days.  It was a nice gig, they bought me my lift tickets and lunch then paid me to shred three bluebird days at PCMR.

On friday night my friend Grace from 7 Springs Patrol invited me over for dinner and drinks to her condo in Deer Valley.  She is out here on vacation and will be helli-skiing wtih the Wasatch Powderbird Guides on saturday which  makes her way more cool than I am.

 March 10 - Alta

I am highly disapointed wtih the Alta patrol director as he was going to hook me up and then screwed me over when I went to see him.  All I got out of today was some sore shins and a bad sunburn.

March 9 - Backcountry via sno-mo

The avalanche report was clear so Adam, Byron, Billy, and I  geared up and ski tored the Brighton/PC backcountry.  Billy towed us over the flats with his brand new snowmobile and then it was up to us to get our hike on at peak "10,420".

March 7 - Canyons

Billy, Chris Gold, and I tore up The Canyons today.  Sweet fast groomers and free lift tickets made for a very enjoyable day.

March 6 - Solitude and Interview

I tore up solitude this AM with Billy before my interview with PC Sch00ls.  I got the POW and the JOB.
